This oil painting is one of several depicting historic moments that have taken place during my lifetime. I originally qualified as an Aeronautical Engineer and yet I chose not to pursue that career before I became an artist. However I regard the American Apollo mission to put men on the moon as a high point of human ingenuity and endeavour. This painting incorporates the iconic image of Buzz Aldrin standing alongside the US flag on the Sea of Tranquillity. Meanwhile, in the foreground, a group sits outside a coffee shop. Are they suffused with boredom? If so, why could this be? Is it a case of stunted ambition, or simply another facet of the human condition?
