This large oil painting consists of two joined panels. As the title implies, I wished to capture the act of viewing a painting in a gallery. However there is more to this than initially meets the eye. Like a visual Russian Matryoshka doll, pictures are nested within other pictures. I also wished to portray motion, which in turn depicts the passage of time. The images are based on observations made in three art galleries, the Saatchi Gallery in London, Hauser & Wirth, also in London, and Centre Pompidou in Paris.
