This oil painting takes its inspiration from a wall mosaic which I once saw in the ruins of a house in Herculaneum — Casa Nettuno e Anfitrite. The mosaic is a representation of a Roman myth, namely that of Neptune and the goddess Salacia. The figures in my painting were observed on a beach in Thailand. However the theme of ageing and beauty is universal.
