This oil painting synthesises several styles. It depicts Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis who was present when her husband, President John F Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. The painting makes use of three public domain photographs taken on that day. From left to right, Jackie smiling as she is greeted in Fort Worth that morning, Secret Service agents chasing the Presidential limousine on Dealey Plaza in Dallas, and finally Jackie as she accompanies Lyndon Johnson as he is sworn in as President just two hours after the killing. The painting incorporates a number of symbolic images, including a yellow rose and a red rose, both of which she carried that day, the Texas flag, and representations of the bullet from the rifle Lee Harvey Oswald used to kill the President. Standing in the foreground is a young woman draped in the Stars and Stripes, viewing history from the present day.
