This is one of a series of oil paintings based on events in the immediate aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire, which took place in London during 2017. I developed the image from photographs I took at the time. The two boys in the foreground bear witness to the fire which killed 72 people. The title is based on a speech given by the Prime Minister of the UK, Theresa May, in 2016. She claimed those who believed themselves to be citizens of the world were in fact 'citizens of nowhere'. I regarded this speech as inflammatory, and an indication of the UK's increasing tendency to adopt right-wing policies.
