This oil painting is an allegorical work that symbolizes the resurgence of right wing extremism in Europe. It also references Mark Gertler's iconic 'Merry-Go-Round'. The brushwork is indicative of the my desire to employ a more painterly approach than some of my previous figurative works, while I combine imagery derived from my own photographs, taken on Brighton Beach, together with film footage found in Leni Riefenstahl's notorious Nazi propaganda film 'Triumph of the Will'.
