In this painting, the quintessential Englishman stands alone on the Atlas Mountains while surveying a distant village. Like my other Moroccan paintings, it incorporates high key colour, strong shadows and patterns, while the structure stems from a longstanding practice of making collages. The painting can be interpreted as a metaphor for a world view that is increasingly being challenged by existential events.
